Dr. Robin S. SMITH

Dr. Robin S. Smith is the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Analyst for the Informatics Collaboratory of the Social Sciences (ICOSS, http://www.shef.ac.uk/icoss). His research interests include social aspects of ICT-based public participation (or 'digital participation'), information-sharing for e-government through local/European/global Spatial Data Infrastructures and collaborative GI Science. With a background in ecological science, natural resource management and town planning research, he has a PhD in public participation and e-government. Robin has taught environmental policy, information management and social science research methods, including GIS, and is involved in developing international training through the Vespucci Initiative's Summer Institutes (http://www.vespucci.org). Robin's role in ICOSS includes supporting multi-disciplinary research and applying geospatial analysis to public policy issues, including criminology, public health, town planning and social inequalities. He is currently reports on the IT track of the University of Sheffield's Co-ordinating Group for SEERC.
