South-East European Research Centre (SEERC)

The aim of DSC 2010 is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge between young researchers and to consolidate the established network of scholars currently undertaking research in, and around the topic of, South East Europe. It will take place in Thessaloniki, on the 13th and 14th of September, 2010, and is organised by SEERC.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Mr Dionysis Basakos(PhD Candidate) on the topic: “Enhancing BDI Agents with Emotions". The Seminar will take place on Thursday 1 July 2010.

An important initiative for innovation was launched at the end of June in Thessaloniki, bringing together authorities and institutions operating in Greece and in the Region of Central Macedonia: the first Innovation Forum to which SEERC was represented by Director Nikos Zaharis.

A guide on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) has been developed by SEERC within the frame of the INTERVALUE project. The IPR Guide describes the procedures that are necessary for any organization involved in R&D in order to define and implement an IPR valorisation strategy.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Dr Anthony Simons (Computer Science Dept., University of Sheffield) on the topic: “Lazy Systematic Unit Testing for Java”. The Seminar will take place on Thursday 17 June 2010.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Dr Eftychia Nikolaidou (BAED, City College) and Dr Alexandros Psychogios (BAED, City College) on the topic: “The Greek Economic Crisis: Causes, Consequences and Future Predictions”. An Open Discussion will follow. The Seminar will take place on Friday 4 June 2010.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Dr Sunil Sahadev (Management School, University of Sheffield) on the topic: “Impact of Personality Traits on Customer Orientation of Call Center Workers:The Moderating Role of Role Conflict and Work Family Conflict”. The Seminar will take place on Friday 28 May 2010.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Dr Anthony Cowling (Computer Science Dept., University of Sheffield) on the topic: “A Top-Down Formal Model of Software System Behaviour”. The Seminar will take place on Wednesday 26 May 2010.

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Mr Alexandros Karvounis (PhD Candidate) on the topic: “The contribution of EU Regional Policy to structural change and to adaptation to globalization in less developed regions”. The Seminar will take place on Thursday 20 May 2010.

The project “Multi-level Governance in South East Europe: Institutional innovation and adaptation, policy transfer and resistance” was awarded the grade “Outstanding” following an evaluation by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) that funded the project.

The South East European Research Centre invites applications for studying towards a PhD degree of the University of Sheffield, through the Doctoral Programme of SEERC. The deadline for applying is May 25, 2010. Details concerning the available research topics and the application submission process can be found in the Call for Applications.

The kick-off meeting of the MORMED project took place on the 29th and 30th of March 2010 in Thessaloniki, and was hosted by the South East European Research Centre (SEERC).

In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered by Dr Christos Frangonikolopoulos(Assistant Professor-Department of Journalism and Mass Media-Aristotle University of Thessaloniki)on the topic:“Global media and global politics: the construction of international news in the 21st century”.
