Within the framework of the celebrations of SEERC’s 10th anniversary we are co-organizing the “3rd Thessaloniki International Symposium: The world in 2015 and beyond” on Sunday October 12th at Olympion, Aristotelous Square.

The Northern Greece Entrepreneurs Cultural Society and the Navarino Network, in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the South-East European Research Centre (SEERC) of the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, City College, are organizing the 3rd Thessaloniki International Symposium in World Affairs.

The organizers aim to establish the Symposium as an annual prestigious international meeting focusing on political and economic developments in the wider geographical area of Thessaloniki, as well as the whole world. This year's symposium theme is "The World in 2015 and Beyond" and consists of five modules: the European Union in the modern era, the Balkans 100 years after the First World War, the role and position of Germany in Europe and the world, the crisis in Ukraine and the crisis in the eurozone and Greece.

Participants in the Symposium will have the opportunity to listen to expert opinions and converse with prominent figures such as Elmar Brok, MEP and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Laza Kekic, Regional Director for Europe, Economist Intelligence Unit, Gerald Knaus, an expert on issues concerning the European Union's role in the Balkans (European Stability Initiative), Wolfango Piccoli, a leading political analyst (Teneo Intelligence), Andreas Rödder, a historian at the University of Mainz, Kataryna Wolczuk, a political analyst of former Soviet Union countries at the University of Birmingham and Michael Masourakis, a distinguished economist (Alpha Bank). Additionally, video messages will be screened from Daniel Gros, director of the Centre for European Policy Studies, and Miranda Xhafa, former member of the International Monetary Fund.

The Thessaloniki International Symposium in World Affairs, which since the beginning has been well received and highly regarded by the city’s audience and especially its youth, has already created a platform for dialogue on key global political and economic challenges and intends to add Thessaloniki to this dialogue.

The working languages of the Symposium will be Greek and English. Simultaneous translation will be available. Certificates of participation will be awarded.
