Research preformed at the Aristotle University Film Department. The research was twofold, first a conceptual and theoretical approach and the second an applied directorial approach. The conceptual attempted to define the “invisible” in cinema using parameters such as audience participation, symbols and language, and open-ended narratives. The applied approach utilized aspects of film directing in an attempt to create the invisible. The elements in creating and directing a vignette included: composition, light, color scheme, style, locales, lens, acting, and sound design. In conclusion, the notion of “the invisible” is approachable, but a clear definition is yet to be obtained.
