It is a great pleasure for us, the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, together with the South East European Research Centre (SEERC) to host the 10th International Conference for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Regional Development (ICEIRD-2017) on 31st August – 1st September 2017 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Over the past 10 years ICEIRD has become one of the leading entrepreneurship, innovation and regional development conferences in Europe, attracting academics and practitioners from around the world. A central theme of ICEIRD over the past decade had been the importance of attributed to universities, industry and government, and how to promote innovation-led growth.

SEERC supports the organization of the Business Angels Forum IV. BAF is a series of focused, closed events with a goal to help early-stage startups raise money. The selected audience consists of startups, angel investors, jury and representatives from the supporters' groups. There are no extensive speeches, but mainly pitching and networking. Applicants for the event can send Executive Summary + Pitch Deck + Financials to: dimou@atlantisresearch.gr until 20/3/2017. They will be called next and receive a first evaluation regarding their investor readiness status.

South East European Research Center (SEERC) participated in The World Business Angels Investment Forum 2017 that took place on 13th and 14th of February at the Swissotel ‘The Bosphorus’, in Istanbul, Turkey. The Forum brought together key players of the equity market to debate the benefits and challenges for the angel investment community in achieving successful growth for businesses and to discuss what more can be done to connect the early-stage market ecosystem. The Forum hosted more than 100 global experts from over 60 countries and 5 continents.

Creating an ecosystem that enables human talent: Discovery Area for Resilient Thessaloniki Thessaloniki was selected in a competitive process to join 100 Resilient Cities, a global initiative pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation. Platform Partners for the 100 Resilient Cities network include ARUP (a global firm of engineers, designers, planners, consultants and technical specialists), The World Bank, frog design, Microsoft, Transform Finance, and more. Through our Preliminary Resilience Assessment (PRA) published in June and available in Greek and English, one of the 5 focus areas for the city's resilience strategy is "Creating an ecosystem that enables human talent". As part of this, we are working with stakeholders in the city to explore what are the needs of the human capital in our city - the entrepreneurs, creative individuals, community leaders, active citizens - who are leading the economic hotspots of the city, or leading the way in emerging sectors, like the creative industries or alternative tourism.
