Throughout the year of 2014 our research centre, SEERC, celebrates a decade of continuous presence and research activity in the South East European region. The “SEERC Awareness Week” that took place at the University of Sheffield, UK, 18-21 November 2014, marked the celebrations of SEERC’s 10th anniversary.

The industry provides the realistic setting where scientific knowledge can be applied – a process which is important for scientific scrutiny, replication, and development. In order to achieve environmentally sustainable company operations within the EU, it is necessary to build strong connections between related academic institutions and research centres and the world of work. In the frame of the Open Seminar Series at SEERC, we are pleased to announce a seminar to be delivered on the topic: "Robots and eldercare the ethical issues". The seminar will be delivered by Dr Amanda Sharkey, from the University of Sheffield, Dept. of Computer Science. The seminar is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 4 November 2014.

The Case of MBAs in Greece: Their Impact on Managerial Practice. This book explores the impact of the proliferation of MBA degrees on managerial practice, looking at the case of Greece. Originating in the United States, MBA degrees provide generic management education, in line with the emphasis on tertiary generic skills encountered in Liberal Market Economies (LMEs).

On 25-26 September 2014 our research centre, SEERC organized the 9th South East European Doctoral Student Conference (DSC 2014) with great success. The event took place at the main campus of the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College in Thessaloniki. With its programme divided in three thematic areas (Research tracks), the aim of the conference was to further facilitate the exchange of knowledge between young researchers and to consolidate the established network of scholars currently undertaking research in South East Europe.
